Myrtle Beach is the heart of the Grand Strand, the sixty miles of shoreline that stretches along South Carolina's coast from Little River to Georgetown. There's no doubt that Myrtle Beach's main attraction is its gorgeous stretch of beach. Witnessing a sunset along the sandy dunes is worth the early rise. Parking near the beach can be brutal during the summer, but there are so many gay-friendly hotels and condos along the Grand Strand that it shouldn't be a problem. The waterfront is also home to an eccentric array of shops, tourist attractions and all-inclusive resorts.
Myrtle Beach is more than just tourists. It also has a well-established gay community that has maintained a few bars for over 20 years, and, more recently, opened a vibrant community center called The Center Project. Myrtle Beach also celebrates its own Pride festival, usually the weekend before the South Carolina Pride celebrations held in Columbia.
